Stories worth watching the sky for.
The studio of writer-director Patrick Read Johnson — features and series built at the meeting point of practical wonder and human stakes, from Spaced Invaders to 5-25-77.
From the studio
Moonwatcher makes films and series the way a director watches dailies — frame by frame, revision by revision, until the story earns the moment it's building toward.
The slate spans generations: family adventure, aerial war drama, spiritual-successor science fiction, and a biography of one of the quiet architects of the movies we grew up on. Different genres, same instinct — find the human being inside the spectacle.
Projects
Produced credits and the features and series currently in active development at Moonwatcher. Produced work is open to everyone. Material still in development is held in its own vault — each project has its own access key, distributed at Patrick's discretion.

Patrick Read Johnson
Founder, Moonwatcher StudiosPatrick Read Johnson is a writer-director whose feature work spans four decades, from the practical-effects science fiction of Spaced Invaders to the family comedy of Baby's Day Out and Angus, the fantasy epic Dragonheart, and the autobiographical drama 5-25-77.
He now runs Moonwatcher Studios out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, developing an active slate of features and series — including an aerial war drama, a spiritual successor to a science-fiction classic, and a biography of one of the visual-effects world's most influential and least-known figures. He has also taught filmmaking at the UNC School of the Arts.
